The
MAA community generally has a genuine case to demand from the state specific
favors so that they are enabled to mix and acquire a status equivalent to
others within the Nation. Their existence or their name itself has created
specific fame to the Nation as it in one of the prominent tribes who have
stuck to their traditions. Some of these traditions have helped the state to
get extra revenues, especially from the tourism industry. Among the most
famous wildlife parks in the world are those found in the northern zone of
Tanzania (Northern Tourist Circuit). These include Lake Manyara National
Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti
National Park and Arusha National Park and the Maasai Mara National
Reserve—all of which have been within MAASAI DOMAIN for over four centuries.
The survival of these sanctuaries has been made possible through the MAA
communities’ traditional ethics of living in harmony with wildlife. It is
the expectation of the MAA communities that their marginalisation is left to
be a history of the past and that they now deserve a special and extra
treatment to bring them in line with their fellow Tanzanians.
