THE PROJECT ' S Strategies and activities

 

Ø      Contribute to decreasing HIV/AIDS related stigmatization by encouraging and empowering individuals and groups to seek VCT services and on coping with consequences of VCT in Simanjiro district.

Strategies and Activities:

  • Use of mapping and stepping stone approaches

  • Collaborate with Traditional leaders and District AIDS Committee

  •  Involve religious leaders in campaigns

  • Risk behavior, areas, and opportunity mapping

  • Conduct training workshop for Traditional leaders and ward leadership

  • Facilitate formation of Village AIDS Committees

  • Select and train Peer Health Educators at village level using stepping stone approach

  • Facilitate Peer Health Education in villages

Ø      Contribute to decreasing HIV.AIDS risks through condom promotion and distribution and development of other gender-focused interventions.

Stategies and Activities:

  •  Condom promotion and distribution

  • Campaigns through Village AIDS Committees

  • Use local mass media to disseminate message on HIV/AIDS

  • Follow up and monitoring

Ø      Promote responsible SRH (Sexual and Reproductive Diseases) related behaviour among youth in and out of school including awareness raising on HIV/AIDS issues for informed sexual and reproductive health rights, so as to reduce HIV transmission.

Strategies and Activities

  •  Work with District AIDS Committee, school authorities and other relevant district officials

  • Collaborate with parents, Village AIDS and school Committees

  • Select and train Physical Health Educators in schools

  • Select and train school guardians Facilitate meeting between school guardians and Village AIDS committees

  • Follow up and monitoring

  • Documentation of learned experiences

  • Identify active youth groups

  • Facilitate a workshop on meaningful activities for youth

  • Facilitate sports competitions among youth groups

Ø      Facilitate managements and owners of workplaces on dealing with effects of HIV/AIDS through implementation of best strategies for awareness, education, prevention and care of HIV/AIDS at workplaces.

Strategies and Activities

  • Collaborate with District AIDS committee and relevant district officials

  • Involve Trade Unions in the fight against HIV/AIDS

  • Facilitate formation of AIDS Committee at workplace

  • Select and train Physical Health Educators in workplaces

Ø      Contribute to decreasing HIV/AIDS risks through development of gender-focused interventions

Strategies and Activities

  • Work closely with women groups

  • Identify women groups in the district

  •  Facilitate selection and training of Physical Health Education Trainers among women groups on HIV/AIDS and micro projects

Ø      Build the skills and capacity of home based caregivers to utilize their indigenous knowledge and locally available resources in caring of People living with Aids/HIV

Strategies and Activities

  • Identify care givers from health facility, village/ community and family levels for training in home care

  • Train caregivers from health facility, village and family levels in community mobilization and care for People living with Aids/HIV

  • Provide logistical support to caregivers

  • Organize caregivers meeting

  • Evaluate the level of care and support to people living with Aids/HIV and their acceptance in their communities

  •  Documentation and dissemination of learned experiences

  • Develop a system for efficient support with basic needs to people living with AIDS/HIV in a sustainable manner through community mobilization.

  • Work closely with District and village AIDS committees

  •  Involve Traditional leaders and groups in provision of care and support to people living with AIDS/HIV

  •  Assist people living with AIDS/HIV with maize flour and beans 

Ø      Ensure that HIV at risk and widows are not obliged to risk unsafe sex in order to survive (eat) by increasing their participation in Income Generation Activities.

  • Collaborate with District and village AIDS committees

  • Facilitate formation of women groups that includes HIV at risk individuals and widows

Ø      Increase the number of orphans who have access to education, health care and shelter as their basic rights.

Strategies and Activities

  • Work with District and village AIDS committee

  •  Collaborate closely with departments of social welfare, education and community development

  •  Establish number of orphans in the district

  • Consultative meeting with district officials on orphans issues

  •  Facilitate a workshop to set criteria for orphans support

  •  Identify local sources of support to orphans
